SmartSwitch - Auto Optimization

What is SmartSwitch?

SmartSwitch is an automatic optimization control. You create rules, with metric thresholds, that will pause specific traffic sources based on KPI criteria. Notifications go out to both Network and Affiliate users with an optional delay mechanism, giving your affiliates the chance to optimize before the traffic is pause. This tool is similar to the Alerts, but pauses traffic as well as sends out alerts regarding traffic quality.

How to Enable SmartSwitch:

Go to Control Center > Roles > click on three vertical dots in the row in which you would like to add SmartSwitch > Click the plus next to Offers > Check the box next to SmartSwitch.

Where to Find SmartSwitch:

Go to Offers > SmartSwitch.

How to Add a Rule in SmartSwitch:

  1. Click on Add New Rule.
  2. General Tab:As you start filling in the cards for the rule you will see on the right hand side a preview of the rule.
    1. Start/End dates are optional. Leave blank if you do not wish to have dates associated with the rule.
    2. Targeted Entity Type: Select if you would like to create the rule based on Advertisers, which will include all Offers attached to the selected Advertiser/s or Specific Offers.
    3. Enabling Notify Partners will send out a notification to partners if one of their traffic sources will be paused due to a SmartSwitch rule.  Partners/Affiliates can manage these notifications by going here.
    4. Hit Continue.
    5. There is a max of 15 active rules allowed. You will not be able to add or activate new rules after that.

  3.  Settings: Using the settings below as an example, this would mean that every 12 hours a report will run that looks back at the Sub4 data from the past 24 hours to determine if any sources should be paused. If sources should be paused, Affiliates and Networks will be notified with a 1 hour delay before the pause takes place.

    1. Variable: Select source_id or sub1-5 to indicate which data set you would like the rule to be enforced on.
    2. Action: Select if you would like the blocked click to go to a blank page or to the Fail Traffic.
    3. Run Frequency: How often the data is checked against the rule.
    4. Data Lookback Window: How far back the data is checked on every run.
    5. Action Delay: Amount of time between when the Affiliate and Network is notified of the pause and when the pause happens.
    6. Hit Continue.
  4. Rules: Using the setting below as an example this would mean that once any affiliate/sub4 variable reaches 5001 total clicks and the CVR (conversions/total clicks) is below .05%, the sub4 traffic source will be blocked an hour after the notification is sent. Once the Rule is setup, hit Refresh Evaluation, to see if any current traffic is hitting this rule.

    1. Activation Thresholdis the amount of total clicks, revenue, payout, impressions, events or conversions that need to be met for the KPI rule to go into effect.
      1. Data: What data point the threshold will be based on: total clicks, revenue, payout, impressions, events or conversions.
      2. Value is a standard number or monetary value based on what you select in Metric.
      3. You can add more thresholds by hitting the plus sign or remove by hitting the trashcan.
    2. KPIs is the Key Performance Indicators that will determine if the traffic source should be paused.
      1. Events: Select Base, Event or the specific name of the Event in which the KPI rule will be attached to.
      2. Metric is the data point in which the rule will be based on. You can read the definitions of the metrics here.
      3. Value is either a percentage or a standard number based on what you select. You can confirm you have used the correct value amount by looking in the Rule Preview to the right.
      4. You can add more KPIs by hitting the plus sign or remove by hitting the trashcan.
    3. Hit Continue.
  5. Exclusions: This is an optional tab that allows you to exclude Affiliates and the Variable from any rule.
    1. Hit Save.

How to Manage Blocked Variables: Once you have created a SmartSwitch Rule you can manage the blocked variables within one screen. Go to Offer > SmartSwitch > Click on name of SmartSwitch Rule > Blocked Variables tab.

  1. Show Filters: You can filter what variables are being displayed by hitting the Show Filters button. You an select by Offer, Affiliate, Variable, Status (of rule) Created After, Created Before, Blocked After, Blocked Before.
  2. Apply to Selected: You can update any variable by selecting the check box in the row and selecting from the pull down Block, Delete Exclude.
    1. Block = Set variable to be blocked if it was previously excluded.
    2. Delete = Remove variable from rule. The variable will go through the SmartSwitch rule again.
    3. Exclude = Set variable to be excluded from rule if previously blocked.

Run History: In this tab you can see each time a rule was run and the outcome by selecting the detail view from the three vertical dots at the end of the row.
